Part 1: Core Grammar (Easy English & Nepali)
1. Tense (เคाเคฒ) - The Time of Action
Tense tells us when a work happened. Is it happening now? Did it happen yesterday? Will it happen tomorrow?
- Present (เคตเคฐ्เคคเคฎाเคจ): He plays football. (Regular habit).
He is playing football. (Happening right now). - Past (เคญूเคค): He played football. (Finished yesterday).
He was playing football. (Happening continuously in the past). - Future (เคญเคตिเคท्เคฏ): He will play football. (Planning for tomorrow).
2. Active and Passive Voice (เคตाเค्เคฏ)
Active: The Subject is the boss. It DOES the work.
Example: Ram eats an apple. (Ram is doing the work).
Passive: The Object becomes the boss. The focus is on the WORK done, not who did it. We always use Verb 3 (Past Participle) in Passive voice.
Example: An apple is eaten by Ram.
3. Direct and Indirect Speech (เคช्เคฐเคค्เคฏเค्เคท เคฐ เค เคช्เคฐเคค्เคฏเค्เคท เคเคฅเคจ)
Direct: Repeating the exact words of a person.
Buddha said, "I am studying."
Indirect (Reported): Telling someone else what was said, changing the tense to the past because the talking is already over!
Buddha said that he was studying. ("am" changes to "was", "I" changes to "he").
Part 2: Reading Comprehension (Cases)
Buddha Bhai, read these 3 paragraphs carefully. They use tricky words (highlighted). After the paragraphs, we will explain them and ask questions!
Case 1: The Meticulous Watchmaker
In a small alley in Kathmandu, lived a meticulous watchmaker named Hari. He did not care about modern digital smartwatches. He believed that mechanical watches had a soul. Every day, he sat with his magnifying glass, carefully adjusting tiny gears. Many people thought his work was obsolete, but Hari was persistent. He knew that true art takes time, and perfection cannot be rushed.
Case 2: The Resilient Pine
High in the Himalayas, a single pine tree stood on a cliff. During winter, harsh storms would batter its branches, trying to break it. The strong winds created an illusion of defeat, making the tree bend completely to the ground. However, the tree was incredibly resilient. Because it learned to bend rather than stand stiff, it never snapped. When spring arrived, it stood tall again.
Case 3: The Ephemeral Beauty
A beautiful butterfly hatched in the garden. Its wings were painted with brilliant colors. However, the life of a butterfly is ephemeral; it only lives for a few weeks. Instead of being sad about its short life, the butterfly danced from flower to flower, drinking nectar and spreading joy. It taught everyone that the value of life is measured by joy, not by length.
